Associate Professor Jane Burns is the founder and CEO of the Young and Well Cooperative Research Centre, the establishment of which is a culmination of her work in depression and suicide prevention and builds on her national and international partnerships with the corporate, philanthropic and not-for-profit sectors. Associate Professor Burns has held roles as a VicHealth Senior Research Fellow with Orygen Youth Health Research Centre and the Inspire International Research Institute. As a Senior Program Manager for Youth and Public Health and Deputy Executive Officer at beyondblue, she established a $5.3 million national health and education research initiative for the prevention of depression in young people. Associate Professor Burns provides strategic advice on a number of advisory boards, including the Department of Veterans’ Affairs Clinical Reference Group, the Department of Communications Cybersafety Working Group and the Department of Health e-Mental Health Advisory Board. Associate Professor Burns has been published widely in academic journals and mainstream media and presented at over 500 conferences and community forums on issues relating to mental health.
